Women on Wood W.O.W.
These portraits are painted or created on wood. The wood is mostly recycled from house renovations and broken down furniture.
I started painting portraits of Women on Wood in Sydney about ten years ago. Recently I started again. I have resisted developing a preferred style, but as time passes by I think some similarities will emerge. I start and finish a portrait quite rapidly. There is about an hour's work in each one. I like to work fast and see what happens as I play with different wood surfaces and use a variety of media including water colours, gouche, acrylics, make-up, glass paint, textile paint and metallic paints. Some of my portraits include sheet music and other printed papers. All are sprayed with a clear gloss varnish to protect them.
